The Next American Revolution : Occupy Wall Street

Over the past couple weeks I’ve had public and private conversations with friends and family regarding the general state of affairs in the world, in America, and what’s going on with the economy. It’s not good. Among other things, I continue to express my concern about the growing income gap in America and it’s consequences if nothing is done to reverse the trend. This along with corporate greed, corruption, corporate welfare, an a growing national debt and deficit crisis. Inequality is back to 1929 levels and if nothing is done stop the madness, people (with nothing to loose) would ultimately rise up and take back from those who have everything to loose. Revolt! It’s happening.

People should not be afraid of their governments. Governments should be afraid of their people

Speculation about the collapse of America is no longer a fringe idea, it’s happening…right before our eyes, and it’s sad to witness as a natural-born American. Unless we the people stand up and do something about it, The United States of America will follow the fate of all great nations that once ruled the world- they will no longer rule! Some argue it’s too late.

Enter the Occupy Wall Street movement, which started on September 17, 2011 and has been growing in strength and organization ever since. It’s here, sooner than I had expected, but it’s happening. The 2nd American Revolution is underway!

Millions of Americans are fed up with the bull shit, the crony-capitalism, ridiculously high unemployment, underemployment, out of control debt, and a broken political system that have fueled disastrous boom and bust economic cycles for over 2 decades now. Enough!

In a conversation with a friend recently, we debated at length the topic of raising taxes on the wealthy and I realized very quickly that to him (and the wealthy elite he supports) this was not an economic issue, it was an issue of politics, power, and entitlement. It was about maintaining the status quo and maintaining a system that is rigged in his favor so that he could remain on his seemingly deserved path to wealth and the ability to retire by age 35. Ha! Could we all be so lucky. Most Americans wonder if they’ll EVER retire. Yes, many of the rich feel a sense of entitlement to the wealth they’ve “earned”, as if nobody helped them obtain it, as if they did it all on their own, as if there were not hundreds, if not thousands, of fellow Americans (in a lower economic positions) who contributed in a variety of ways to where they are today, or as if they weren’t able to take advantage of tax loopholes (unknown or unavailable to the poor and middle class).

Don’t get me wrong, some people are just smart, disciplined , and hard-working. They’re successful in life because of these things. However, one must not overlook the vast amount of our lives that’s determined by luck. If you’re living any “dream” today, it’s surely not the American Dream, and you should consider yourself very, very lucky. Stop complaining about paying your fair share in taxes, which ultimately goes towards maintaining this system built in your favor, and which remains in your favor. If you’re fat-cat, rich politician friends in congress are spending tax dollars unwisely, then maybe you should get together on the weekend and discuss the issue over some wine on your yacht.

More to come on this topic later, but for now I shall look forward to October 15th!

The only verdict is vengeance, a vendetta, held as a votive not in vain.
